Start time.
Okay, so the 2 weeks of post-baby meals are over. We're no longer at the liberty of our friends for food choices. That means it's time to start thinking about whole foods. We'll begin eating a whole foods diet well, today actually. I'm going to scour the internet and pintrest to find good foods that we can all enjoy.
Tomorrow I make a menu for the week, tonight I have NO idea what will be on it!

Upcoming Sponsor
As I begin my journey toward health, EatSmart has agreed to partner with me. They will be providing me with a digital scale. I will provide a review of the scale on or after 1/1/12!
Starting again
Pre-baby weight: 185
Pre-birth weight: 244
Post-partum weight: 203
Pounds to pre-baby: 18
Pounds to current goal: 38
I know, I know. Weight is not the only determining factor when it comes to overall health. I've got bigger issues right now to deal with. Weight, however, is an indicator of those other things and working on reducing the weight. Major issues I need to address: irregular/high blood sugars, high(ish) cholesterol, and high blood pressure (this was brought on by pregnancy).
We also need to address our lifestyle. We've been sedentary for a while, too long. We're working on a plan for changing this. However, as I sit in the NICU of the hospital it's hard to get a move on. I did walk all the way to the cafeteria the other day (that's quite a walk). We didn't eat, just walked there and back. It wore me out, something about this post-baby body is easily tired out by walking. We'll start with walking, hiking, etc.
Part of our lifestyle that needs to be addressed is our food intake. In fact, Mr. Crum has started to consider alternative food plans. He is looking at a low carb whole foods vegan(ish) diet. That's a lot to put into one package and we're going to spend some time looking at recipes and gathering ideas and information for 2 weeks and then hit it hard. Right now we're working on making better choices (although he's eating a frozen meal for lunch and planning to take our boys to McDonalds for dinner).
Our start: DIY lunches at the hospital. First off, I don't want to spend the money on buying food for every meal while we're here. Secondly, what I'll eat when I go to the cafeteria is not entirely healthy. So my foods while I'm at the hospital: Low carb whole wheat wraps, sunbutter, carrots, string cheese, yogurt, flavored almonds, and a piece of fresh fruit for a snack. Dinners are being brought to us by some generous women from church, so they may not fit with "the plan". We're glad to be flexible and accept the love from others.
Fitness goal for this week: Walk, to the lounge, to the cafeteria, to greet visitors. I just need to make sure I'm not sitting all day long.

Hormone Schmormone
Okay, so I'm 5 months pregnant and I think this has been the most um.. emotional pregnancy so far. I've been super hormonal and felt off-balanced and crazy half the time... well, maybe not really half the time, but far more than the last 2 pregnancies.
Little things get me upset sometimes. In fact, on Friday I went to the doctor. I tried to explain to her why I am not going to see the specialist she recommended. She argued with me about my reasoning, she would not listen to it or try to understand my dilemma. I was frustrated - so I cried. I'm pregnant, I'm hormonal, that happens.
For real though - she told me to stop crying because, "we're only trying to help you, and crying won't help your blood sugar or the baby". FOR REAL?!?!?! Then I was angry.
Finally I worked past it (although thinking about this encounter still makes me angry). Then I went to the pharmacy to pick up my meds - they informed me that they don't take my insurance - even though I knew otherwise. Again - I cried.
Yay husband who straightened things out with the pharmacy!

Keeping it up
Happy Valentines Day! My husband got me a digital scale for Valentines Day. I told him that's one he won't live down -- but actually, I asked for one. (He also got bath products and roses). I'm looking forward to getting my scale out of the box and watching the numbers drop as I work on my routine. Today is day #3 with the Wii Fit and I haven't been on it yet.. everyone else is asleep, so I'd better get to it!

Starting out
Okay, so we officially started a fitness campaign a month and a half ago, just after the new year. It had nothing to do with resolutions, and everything to do with health. I am diabetic and my blood sugar levels have been out of control. We did not have insurance for several months (we do now) and I could not afford medicine or doctor's visits.
We started a low (almost no) carb diet but still had not put in an exercise component - and THAT is where I have always struggled. I need exercise, but I don't tend to like it.
So, here I am on February 13 - yesterday I started using our new Wii Fit. Thank you to some friends who kindly sold it to us for an amazing price. I love the Wii Fit so far, my only difficulty is keeping the kids off of it while I try to use it.
I am 5'7"
185 lbs
29% BMI (according to wii fit)
Current Goal - weight of 180 on February 26
